Starting a blog in 2025?

Oops I did it again. The last time I attempted a blog I was already too late to the party. But I’ve never really liked parties anyway. I prefer to be the Zag to everyone’s Zig. So it’s no longer 2008, Katie Perry isn’t kissing girls but rather having intimate dinners with former Prime Ministers. I’ll skip right through the obvious, yada, yada, the world was a dumpster fire and unsurprisingly the world is still a dumpster fire, that never changes. Nothing is new, and yet, everything is new. So yes blogs aren’t new, but this one is. Just like an episode of 90s Oprah… you can have a blog and you can have a blog… everyone gets a blog! If you don’t get the reference, it’s 2025 now, you can google it, watch it on YouTube, or see it in a meme. Every pop culture reference is available at your freshly painted fingertips. What a time to be alive or “ded”.

I am hoping this blog or bLOGUE (/bloʊɡ/ n. Rhymes with Vogue.) as I’m affectionately/facetiously calling it, provides a bit of entertainment during your busy work schedule. I’ll aim to take nice photos, provide a bit of commentary. Maybe you’ll laugh a little, maybe you’ll book mark a restaurant or cafe I go to, pin an outfit that suits your vibe or inspires you to pickup a camera, or fork, and explore the world. My first adventure here will be preparing for and then attending Paris Fashion week this fall. So I’ll document the goings on and share my experiences. I’ve kinda been waiting most of my work life to do something like this and technology has finally made it as least irritating as possible to produce.

Why now? Well I was lucky enough to attend a workshop by photographer Gus Powell and his concept of sketching with photos resonated with me. His intention was to reconsider how you view your throw away shots. To not think of them as garbage, but as sketches to help you hone what it is you are trying to capture. I enjoyed how it reframed the pursuit of perfection. I’ve never liked this idea that something has to be perfect or fully fleshed out. There is no right or wrong in art, things just are. Whether or not someone likes/dislikes my photos is completely out of my control. So these sketches for me are good enough, I don’t need to perfect them. They just need to be decent because perfection does not exist, the sooner you realize this, the happier you’ll be.

Pretty Decent starts today, it won’t be perfect, it might not even be that great. But I’m okay with that because just trying sometimes needs to be enough, and something to be proud of. I am hoping you end up finding time to pop by now and then. I’m open to commentary, so post a note, even if it’s just to say hello.

Sincerely,

- Evaan
